Gator Baseball Starts Quest For National Title Tonight At CWS

By on June 27th, 2011

The Gator baseball tries for its first national championship ever as it plays defending national champion South Carolina tonight in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

The winner will need to win two games in this best two of three affair and the championship comes down to two old foes in the SEC East going head to head. During the regular season, South Carolina took two of three from Florida in Gainesville.

In getting to the championship, both teams have gone unbeaten, winning three games in a row.

Carolina may be without its best statistical hitter tonight and perhaps for the rest of the CWS. Sophomore infielder Christian Walker suffered a wrist injury swinging at a pitch against Virginia and has not been able to swing a bat since sustaining the injury. He tried taking batting practice Sunday but was unable to swing a bat. Walker has a team leading 10 homers and 62 rbi and is hitting .355.
