By WRUF Staff on July 29th, 2011

The Pittsburgh Pirates can never make up for the game they lost to the Atlanta Braves on a blown umpire’s call but they did get back in the winning column by beating the Braves 5-2 to split a four game series.

In other National League games, Florida completes a sweep of Washington with a 5-2 win; San Diego nips Arizona 4-3; Houston beats St.Louis 5-3 and Milwaukee increases its lead over the Cardinals and Pirates to a game and a half with a 4-2 win over Chicago. San Francisco behind Tim Lincecum stops Philadelphia 4-1 and New York completes a four game sweep at Cincinnati by beating the Reds 10-9.

In the American League, Tampa Bay avoids a sweep by beating Oakland 10-8 as Desmond Jennings hits his first big league home run.

In other contests, Los Angeles stays two games behind Texas in the AL West with a 12-7 win over AL Central leader Detroit. Texas wins 4-1 over Minnesota. Toronto beats Baltimore 8-5 to get to .500 and Kansas City earns a split of a four game series with Boston with a 4-3 win.
