NCAA Committee Approves Tougher APR Standards For Athletic Programs

Less than 24 hours after talking about the issue by the NCAA president, an NCAA committee approves a tougher Athletic Progress Rate standard for Division I athletic programs.

The current rate is a 925 but the committee moved it to 930 and if programs do not meet the standard, there could be postseason bans for their athletic teams.

There will be more discussion in October on how to implement the new APR structure and about the proposed sanctions.

This move could be the first of many changes as many NCAA presidents are in agreement with NCAA president Mark Emmert about coming down hard on schools who cheat and about trimming down and simplifying the NCAA rulebook, among other issues.
