Justin Verlander wasn’t his best but it was good enough.
The dominant Detroit Tiger righthander gave up four runs but his teammates made it stand up as Detroit beat the New York Yankees 5-4 Monday to go up 2-1 in their American League Divisional Series.
Verlander pitched eight innings and Jose Valverde converted his 50th save in 50 chances to seal the Tiger win.
In the other ALDS, Texas nips Tampa Bay 4-3 to put them up 2-1 in the series. Mike Napoli hit a go ahead two run homer to help the Rangers get the win.
Today, all four divisional series will be in action with Texas at Tampa Bay at 2 followed by Philadelphia at St.Louis where that series is tied at one. New York is at Detroit at 6:30pm followed by Milwaukee at Arizona where the Brewers are going for a three game sweep of the series.
