  • The New England Patriots overcame a sluggish start to pound the Kansas City Chiefs 34-3 on Monday Night Football. New England is now 7-3 while the Chiefs fall to 4-6.
  • Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander becomes the first pitcher since Dennis Eckersley in 1992 to win both the Cy Young Award and the Most Valuable Player Award as he wins the American League MVP Award announced yesterday. Verlander won 24 games and had a 2.40 earned run average for the Tigers; he beat out Boston’s Jacoby Ellsbury and Toronto’s Jose Bautista.
  • There are several reports today that Arizona will hire Rich Rodriguez to be its new head football coach after firing Mike Stoops during this season. Rodriguez last coached at Michigan where he was fired after three seasons.
  • New York Jets coach Rex Ryan was fined $75,000 by the NFL for using profanity towards a fan during New York’s game against New England a few days ago.
