**Parsons scores 20 points to help the Rockets down the Charlotte Bobcats 80-72. Houston broke a four game losing streak with the win and stand at 3-6 on the young NBA season.
- In NFL news, former Gator Mike Mularkey has been hired as the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars; he had been the offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons for the past few seasons. Mularkey does have previous head coaching experience in the NFL as he coached at Buffalo.
- The Oakland Raiders are bringing in a new general manager and apparently he wanted his own coach as the team suddenly fires coach Hue Jackson after just one year on the job. The Raiders finished 8-8 this past season.
- The annual NCAA Convention takes place this week in Indianapolis with a number of items up for discuxssion. Three big items of discussion should be a possible $2,000 stipend for athletes or the so called full cost of attendance, starting four year scholarships instead of year to year scholarships and possible scholarship reductions in football and in women’s basketball.
- The BCS big shots will also be conducting a series of meetings to discuss a myriad of possible changes to the system. A new BCS format must be in place before this fall when negotiations begin for a new television deal.
