UF Softball Splits Doubleheader With LSU

By on April 25th, 2012

The second ranked Gators softball team spilt a double-header Tuesday night at Katie Seahole Pressley stadium against the LSU Tigers.  Florida (42-6, 19-3 SEC) needed extra innings to take the first game over the Tigers, (33-16, 14-8 SEC) and won it in the bottom of the eighth to take it 2 to 1.

With the Tigers leading 1-0 going into the bottom of the seventh, Ensley Gammel stepped up to the plate with two outs and an 0-2 count and sent a solo shot over the right field wall to tie the game.  Later, Michelle Moultrie had a game winning hit to score freshman Katie Medina from first base.  Gators starting pitcher Hannah Rogers threw a complete game, and has now pitched 19 innings in five days.

In the second game of the night, both teams struggled to score again, and the lone run of the game was scored by LSU in the second inning.  Despite a late rally, the Gators fell to the Tigers 1-0.  Florida was led by freshman Sami Fagan’s two for four performance at the plate while sister Kelsey Fagan and Jess Damico each tallied hits.  Lauren Haeger took the loss on the mound, and fell to 12-3 on the year.

Next up for the Gators is a series against the the Kentucky Wildcats, followed by a much anticipated series with Alabama to wrap up the regular SEC season.   Florida and Alabama are the top two teams in the SEC.
