The season is over…abruptly…for the University of Florida softball team.
With three players kicked off the team to start the NCAA Regional the Gators hosted, it came down to a matchup Sunday with South Florida to stay alive in the tournament and the Gators fell short, losing 1-0 to the Bulls.
Florida’s season ends at 48-13 and the Gators don’t advance to an NCAA Super Regional or to the College World Series for the first time in five years. Florida also loses SEC Player of the Year Michelle Moultrie to graduation as an off season looms full of questions for this proud program.
On Sunday, the Gators needed to beat the Bulls twice to advance but did not win the first game. Florida had its chances to win, especially in the sixth inning when they loaded the bases with no outs but two strikeouts and a ground out later, Florida failed to score and an inning later its season ended.
