The top seeded Gator baseball team will return to the College World Series for the third straight year after beating North Carolina State 9-8 in extra innings Sunday to win its Super Regional in Gainesville.
Just like in Saturday’s game, Florida had to wait out a long rain delay and then put away a pesky bunch from NC State but the Gators got the job done.
Rain delayed the game for almost two and a half hours in the bottom of the third in a scoreless game but after that, the hitting took over.
Florida took a 4-1 lead but the Wolfpack went ahead 5-4; Florida went up 6-5 and 7-6 but each time the Wolfpack, the home team in this game, battled back to tie. But in the top of the 10th, Daniel Pigott homered and Josh Tobias had an rbi hit that gave Florida a two run lead.
But the Wolfpack would not go away as they knocked Gator closer Austin Maddox from the game and Keenan Kish was brought in by Gator coach Kevin O’Sullivan to pitch. He gave up a sacrifice fly but then struck out the next hitter to send the Gators into a frenzy and to Omaha again.
