In other NL games, San Diego blanks Chicago 2-0; Milwaukee completes a sweep of Cincinnati with a 3-2 win that pulls Pittsburgh within two and a half games of the Reds in the NL Central after the Bucs beat Arizona 7-6.   Washington nips Houston 4-3; San Francisco mauls St.Louis 15-0 and Los Angeles tops Colorado 6-4.

In the American League, Tampa Bay ekes out a 3-2 win over Toronto and the Rays try for a series sweep this afternoon before going to Minnesota for a weekend series.

In other AL games, New York beats Detroit 12-8 as Curtis Granderson hits his 30th homer; the win keeps the Yankees four and a half games ahead of Baltimore in the AL East after the O’s beat Seattle 9-2.   Baltimore sweeps a three game series.

Cleveland breaks an 11 game losing streak with a 6-2 win over Minnesota; Kansas City nips Chicago 2-1; Texas outlasts Boston 10-9; and Oakland edges Los Angeles 9-8.   Oakland, Baltimore, Detroit and Chicago all are tied for the wild card lead with the same 60-51 records.
