Rays Stay Hot; Defeat Mariners

The Tampa Bay Rays have now won seven straight games following Monday’s 4-1 win at Seattle.   James Cobb got the win on the mound as the Rays maintain the first wild card lead in the American League.

In other AL games, New York downs Texas 8-2 with Nick Swisher’s grand slam the big blow; Minnesota downs Detroit 9-3 but the Tigers don’t lose ground to Chicago in the AL Central after a 3-2 Toronto win over the White Sox.   Cleveland also wins, downing the Los Angeles Angels.

In the National League, Washington romps over San Francisco 14-2 and increases its lead in the NL Central to five and a half games over Atlanta, a 4-1 loser to San Diego.   Milwaukee loses to Colorado 9-6; Los Angeles nips Pittsburgh 5-4; Philadelphia gets a complete game from Cole Hamels to stop Miami 4-0 and Chicago rips Houston 7-1.
