Gainesville High School Football Opens Tonight

The Gainesville High School Purple Hurricanes begin their 2012 regular season campaign tonight as they host Yulee. The Hurricanes are on the heels of a regional finals appearance last season where they fell to Armwood High School.

GHS won their preseason matchup 23-12 over Dr. Phillips High School back on August 24. Head coach James Thomson says he is proud of his squad for coming through with a victory.

The Hurricanes are returning a number of key players including QB Mark Cato and Florida Gator commit WR Chris Thompson. Coach Thomson says he really likes the intangibles that Thompson brings.

Meanwhile Yulee will display their own recruited talent in running back Derrick Henry, who has received offers from Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. Thomson expects a challenge in containing Henry during the game.

Kickoff tonight is 7:00 pm.
