** Charlie Strong’s Louisville football team beats in state rival Kentucky 32-14 Sunday to keep the Governor’s Cup in Louisville.   Baylor, without quarterback Robert Griffin III who has moved to the pros, does not miss a beat and whips SMU 59-24.   Bethune Cookman also gets a win, downing Alabama State 38-28.

** Tonight in college football, Georgia Tech faces Virginia Tech.

** Running back Maurice Jones-Drew ends his holdout and reports to the Jacksonville Jaguars without a new contract he was seeking.

** Andy Roddick, who says he will retire after the U.S. Open tennis championship, advances to the fourth round to face 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro.

** Denny Hamlin wins the NASCAR race in Georgia yesterday, his second straight NASCAR win.   The final race of the year is next week in Richmond before the 12 driver Chase For The Cup begins.

** The Gator soccer team defeats FIU 3-0 Sunday in Gainesville.   Florida is now 2-2-1 on the year and will host New Mexico on Sunday.
