Yanks Beat Rays, Regain First In AL East

The New York Yankees regain sole possession of first place in the American League East after beating Tampa Bay 6-4 while Baltimore lost to Toronto 6-4.    The Yanks lead the O’s by a game and the Rays by two and a half games.   The Rays are off today while the Yankees start a big series in Baltimore.

In other AL games, Texas nips Kansas City 7-6; the LA Angels sweep Oakland with a 7-1 win; Chicago stays a game ahead of Detroit in the AL Central with a 6-2 win over Minnesota while the Tigers top Cleveland 7-1.

In the National League, Gio Gonzalez wins his 18th game as Washington beats Chicago 9-1 with the help of six home runs.   R.A. Dickey also wins his 18th game as New York beats St.Louis 6-2.

Atlanta beat Colorado 1-0 to open a three game wild card lead over the Cardinals.   The Cardinals are idle today while the Braves again play Colorado.   In other games, Milwaukee beats Florida 8-5; Pittsburgh beats Houston 6-3; Arizona beats San Francisco 4-2 and San Diego nips Los Angeles 4-3.
