College Football Upset, Refs Get Standing O, Friday Sports News And Notes….

The “old” referees get a standing ovation upon their return to the NFL; a top ten college football team is upset and a big league manager is fired in our Friday Sports News And Notes…

** The NFL’s regular officials came back to work Thursday night and received a standing ovation from the crowd as Baltimore tops winless Cleveland 23-16.

** In college football, number eight Stanford is upset on the road by Washington 17-13; both teams are now 3-1 on the year.

** In Major League Baseball, the Cleveland Indians fire Manny Acta and Sandy Alomar Jr. is named interim manager.

** The Ryder Cup in golf starts today with the United States team playing the Europeans who have won four of the last five Cups.

** The Denver Broncos have released former Gator Cornelius Ingram from the practice squad and the New England Patriots release veteran tight end Kellen Winslow Jr.

** In local high school football, Gainesville High and Eastside High School renew their annual city rivalry tonight in Gainesville.  Buchholz travels to play at Santa Fe and Union County travels to play Fort White as well.

** If you like high school swimming, then on Saturday go and see the Rob Ramirez City Meet at Westside Recreational Pool.   The meet is named after the coach at Gainesville High School.
