A great start for Gator softball, a win for the Miami Heat and more in our Monday Sports News and Notes…
** The young Gator softball team looked like a veteran unit at its opening tournament of the season in Arizona as Florida goes 5-0 and beat two top five teams in the process.
** The Gator men’s golf team finished fourth in its own Gator Invitational; FSU won the tournament and beat Florida by 19 strokes.
** The Gator women’s basketball team moves to 4-6 in the SEC with a 65-57 win at Auburn on Sunday; next is a trip to Texas A&M on Thursday.
** The NBA’s All Star Weekend is coming up and a couple of Gators are going to play in the Rising Stars Challenge Game as Bradley Beal and Chandler Parsons will participate.
** The Miami Heat down the Los Angeles Lakers 107-97 as LeBron James scored 32 points and Dwayne Wade chips in with 30. Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic break a 12 game losing streak with a 110-104 win over visiting Portland.
** Brandt Snedeker won the PGA Tournament event at Pebble Beach, beating Chris Kirk by two shots and shooting a record 19 under par for the tournament in the process.
