With 2013's National Signing Day in the books, Rivals.com has released its first Rivals 100 for the 2014 recruiting class. The Florida Gators had two commits on the list – quarterback Will Grier (Davidson, North Carolina/Davidson Day) as well as defensive tackle Travonte Valentine (Palm Bay, Florida/Bayside).
The SEC is a conference won on the line of scrimmage, and the 6-foot-3, 286 pound Valentine could help the Gators get the job done in the trenches as a defensive tackle. Valentine ranks No. 46 in the Rivals 100 and was the second Gator to commit to the 2014 class, which he did on July 29, 2012. Valentine had initially committed to Louisville before being flipped to the Gators.
Will Grier is a highly touted 6-foot-3, 171 pound dual threat quarterback and is ranked No. 18 overall in the Rivals 100. He threw for 5,785 yards and 69 touchdowns his junior season, averaging 445 yards per game. Grier also ran for 813 yards and eight touchdowns. Among his achievements is throwing for 834 yards and scoring ten touchdowns in one game. Gator coach Will Muschamp typically only likes to sign one quarterback per class (unless roster attrition occurs like the Jacoby Brissett transfer) but if everything goes according to plan roster wise, the Gators should be happy with the one signal caller they have committed.
