** A lot of local teams advance to regional final play in boy’s high school basketball after regional quarterfinals were played last night. Advancing with wins are Gainesville High School, Eastside, Williston, Fort White and St. Francis.
** The girls are in regional final play Saturday as Buchholz, Gainesville High, Ocala Trinity Catholic and Newberry all remain alive to advance to further postseason play.
** The Florida women’s basketball team falls to 15-10 and to 4-7 in the SEC after losing at nationally ranked Texas A&M 78-71 Thursday; UF hosts nationally ranked Georgia Sunday.
** Three future Gator basketball players have been named McDonald’s All Americans; guard Kasey Hill and post-player Chris Walker were named, as was Gator women’s signee Ronni Williams.
** LSU tops South Carolina 64-46 in men’s basketball on Thursday. The feature matchups for Saturday finds Missouri at Arkansas and Kentucky at Tennessee in its first game without center Nerlens Noel who is out for the year with a knee injury.
** Gators track coach Mike Holloway has been named the head coach for Team USA for the World Outdoor Championships to be held in Moscow in August.
