Lots of postseason high school basketball, the Daytona 500, SEC championship action and more in our Friday Sports News And Notes…
** The Buchholz girl’s basketball team plays in a Class 7A state semifinal game today in Lakeland. The Bobcats play a team from Tampa.
** A lot of local high school boy’s basketball regional finals are set for Saturday. Gainesville High travels to play Orlando Edgewater; Williston takes on Orlando Lake Highland Prep and Union County is at Baldwin. Hawthorne will host Hamilton County as well.
** The Florida women’s basketball team falls to Vanderbilt 68-57 at home on Thursday. Florida falls to 15-12 and to 4-9 in the SEC and will play at Alabama Sunday.
** The SEC Swimming and Diving Championships are wrapping up. The Gator men are in first place and the women are in second heading into Friday action.
** The Gator softball team is now 14-0 after winning two games in a tournament in California; UF beats Loyola Marymount 8-2 and Oklahoma State 2-0. Today, Florida is scheduled to play number seven Missouri and Syracuse.
** Big weekend in Daytona with races all weekend long with the big one, the Daytona 500, to be run on Sunday.
** Gator lacrosse and women’s tennis will be in action as well; lacrosse has two matches at home this weekend with UC Davis being the first one up on Friday, while women’s tennis plays Stanford at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
