Gator Baseball Beats Jacksonville; Will Host Dolphins Tonight

The Gator baseball team improves its record to 6-7 on the year after beating Jacksonville University 8-5 Tuesday night in Jacksonville.  The Dolphins fall to 4-8.

Florida took a 1-0 lead in the first on a leadoff homer by Casey Turgeon but the lead would not last as JU scored a run in the third and two in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.

But in the Gator sixth, Harrison Bader singled and after two outs, catcher Taylor Gushue walked.  Vickash Ramjit followed with an rbi single and the runners moved up when the the centerfielder bobbled the ball.  A wild pitch brought in Gushue and Ramjit scored on a ground ball error off the bat of Josh Tobias.

JU scored two in the sixth to reclaim the lead but Florida got two runs in the seventh to take a lead it would not give up.  With one out Turgeon singled and Bader doubled.  Turgeon scored on a passed ball and Bader came around on a wild pitch.   Florida added two insurance runs in the ninth to seal the win.

Bader and Turgeon were Florida’s top hitters on the night with Turgeon getting two hits and scoring three runs while Bader had a three hit night and scored three runs.

Johnny Magliozzi gets the win in relief for Florida, who now hosts the Dolphins tonight; you can hear the game live on ESPN Radio 850/900 starting at 6:55pm.
