Gator women’s basketball wins in third round of WNIT

The Gator women’s basketball team defeated the Charlotte 49ers Wednesday night in the third round of the WNIT 67-65. It was revenge for the Gators as the 49ers beat the Gators in the third round of the WNIT in 2011.

With the game tied and three seconds remaining last night, Florida’s Jaterra Bonds got the ball and made a game winning shot. She talked about making that last shot.

Florida needed a huge effort from many players as the game proved to be a tough matchup. Bonds finished with a team-high 15 points, while Jennifer George recorded 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and freshman Sydney Moss added 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists. UF head coach Amanda Butler said that the Gators relied upon their top contributors.

Next up, the Gators are facing off against James Madison on Saturday as they advance into the quarterfinals for just the third time in program history.
