** The Major League Baseball season has officially opened, but the Tampa Bay Rays don’t open their season until today when they play Baltimore. Yesterday in openers, Washington downed Miami 2-0 and Atlanta beat Philadelphia 7-5.
** The Orlando Magic lost again, this time to Houston 111-103 as former Gator Chandler Parsons missed the game due to an illness for Houston.
** The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament has two tickets punched to the Final Four; Connecticut is in after routing Kentucky 83-53 and Cal is in after beating Georgia in overtime.
** The Oakland Raiders have traded for quarterback Matt Flynn; the Seattle Seahawks get draft picks in return. It looks like the Raiders will part ways with quarterback Carson Palmer.
** Coach Tubby Smith has found a new home after being fired at the University of Minnesota as basketball coach; he has been hired at Texas Tech for the same position.
