Thursday’s MLB Recap

Many teams in big league baseball wrapped up their first series of the season Thursday, with the Rays and Marlins both in action. The Rays were able to even up the series in their second game against Baltimore, but Chris Davis was once again too much for Rays pitchers as he struck early for his third home run in three games, giving the Orioles the early lead.

Though the Rays tied it up in the fifth with a couple RBIs from James Loney and Jose Molina, Davis would strike again in the eighth with a two-run double that lifted the Orioles to win the game 6-3 and take the series.

The other American League results: the Twins beat the Tigers 8-2, the Royals stole a game from the White Sox 3-1, the Athletics took down the Mariners 8-2 , the Yankees avoided the sweep against the Red Sox 4-2, and the Blue Jays hung on to take a win from the Indians 10-8.

For the Marlins, it was the same story just a different game. The Miami team could not get a win in their series versus Washington, but did manage to get their first run of the season with a Justin Ruggiano home run in the second inning.

The Marlins lost 6-1.

The other National League results: the Braves got shut out 2-0 in their final game versus the Phillies, the Cubs beat the Pirates 3-2, the Padres snuck one by the Mets 2-1, and in the interleague series, the Reds were able to take the final game and the series versus the Angels 5-4.
