Gators Men’s Golf Head Coach and TJ Vogel Meet With Media

Florida Gators Men’s Golf head coach Buddy Alexander and Gators golfer TJ Vogel met with media Thursday afternoon.

Vogel, a 22 year old senior, will be spending next weekend competing on golf’s most prestigious course: August National Golf Club. After winning the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in July 2012, Vogel earned an invitation to compete with the best golfers in the world at The Masters.

Vogel left Friday to continue his preparation for Augusta National. He spent the previous weekend there as well. While out for a practice round last Sunday, Vogel had the opportunity to meet his golf idol, Tiger Woods.

Vogel walked right up to Woods and introduced himself.

“I was just like ‘I want to introduce myself. I’m one of the amateurs playing in the tournament.’ He was real sincere ‘Congratulations. That’s such an amazing accomplishment.’ And then I was like ‘You know, we have the same birthday. It’s kind of destiny that we are meeting here at Augusta National.’” Vogel said. “He’s kind of a funny and sarcastic dude.’’

The 2013 Masters Tournament begins Thursday, April 11th.
