The PGA’s first major tournament tees off as the 2013 Masters golf tournament is underway at Augusta, Ga. The 77th Annual tournament at the famed Augusta National Golf Club has many different headlines, but for Gator fans, the biggest may be senior T.J. Vogel participating as an amateur. Vogel earned his spot in the esteemed tournament after becoming the champion of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Tournament last July. Gator men’s golf coach Buddy Alexander said that he’s been able to advise Vogel about the tournament after his own experiences.
Vogel is one of six amateurs playing in Augusta this weekend. Alongside Vogel will be another familiar face as teammate Tyler McCumber is caddying for him. Vogel will also be receiving some help from other Gator sources. Coach Alexander said that he’s been preparing the senior with all aspects of tournament.
Vogel is only one of two Gators trying to master the course as former Gator Brian Gay will be teeing off as well.
