** Gator football coach Will Muschamp has hired Texas El Paso defensive coordinator Jeff Choate to a position on the Gator staff. He will be an outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator.
** The Atlanta Braves improve to 12-1 with a 6-3 win over Kansas City. Miami got a home win by beating Washington 8-2, while struggling Tampa Bay lost at Baltimore 5-4.
** The Gator softball team faces familiar foe FSU today in Tallahassee. The Gators try to beat the Seminoles for the second time this year.
** Legendary broadcaster Pat Summerall died at the age of 82. Summerall was a player in the NFL in the 1950s and 60s who later became an iconic football announcer at CBS and Fox.
** The Jacksonville Jaguars have opened their first minicamp under new head coach Gus Bradley. The minicamp will last three days.
** The University of Oregon has admitted “major violations” in its football program, and it has proposed some sanctions to be levied against itself because of the violations. The NCAA must approve any self imposed sanctions.
