** The Gator men’s track and field team has been ranked number one in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll. Florida spent six weeks atop the rankings last year.
** The Atlanta Braves fought off temperatures in the 20’s in Colorado to sweep the Rockies 10-2 and 4-3 to improve their record to a league best 15-5. Elsewhere, Miami split a doubleheader with Minnesota, losing 4-3 and winning 8-5 while Tampa Bay fell to New York 4-3.
** The Braves place outfielder Justin Heyward on the disabled list after he underwent an appendectomy.
** In the NBA playoffs, the New York Knicks go up 2-0 on Boston in the Eastern Conference with an 87-71 win in New York. Game 3 shifts to Boston.
** In other NBA news, the Charlotte Bobcats fire coach Mike Dunlap after just one season while the Cleveland Cavaliers reunite with former coach Mike Brown on a new four year deal.
** The BCS meetings continue in California and the title for the new postseason system has been named; it will be called the College Football Playoff.
