Gator Tennis Teams Open NCAA Tournament Play

Both the Gator men’s and women’s tennis teams begin play this weekend in the NCAA Tournament and both teams are hosting first and second round action.

The Gator men (15-10, 7-5 SEC) face Denver (11-11) today and the winner will face either 18th ranked Cal or Florida State on Saturday.  This will be the first time UF and Denver have faced each other.

Florida is one of eight SEC teams on the men’s side hosting a regional and 12 of the 13 SEC teams competing in men’s tennis made the NCAA field.

The Gator women, the two time defending national champions, will face Marist tomorrow and the winner will play on Sunday against the winner of the Yale-Georgia Tech match.

Gator coach Roland Thornqvist says, despite the success of his team, it is working hard to get ready for this weekend especially in working to make the doubles better, a spot he says that has been a bit in flux during the season.
