The Florida Gator softball team will have to come all the way out of the loser’s bracket if it wants to win a national championship at softball’s Women’s College World Series. SEC foe Tennessee beat Florida today 9-2 in Oklahoma City.
Florida’s first team All-American pitcher Hannah Rogers started in the circle for Florida but she did not get out of the first inning. The Lady Vols jumped on her for three runs to take an early 3-0 lead and knocked her out of the game.
The lead stayed 3-0 until the fifth when the Gators pushed across their two runs to cut the deficit to 3-2 but Tennesssee came right back by scoring four runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead against reliever Lauren Haeger. Tennessee later tacked on two insurance runs.
Florida will play Nebraska in an elimination game; the Cornhuskers lost to Washington on a walk off two run homer in the bottom of the seventh.
