The 2013 season is over for the Florida baseball team.
Florida could not hold a late 4-1 lead Saturday in the NCAA Bloomington Regional and the Gators lose 5-4 to Valparaiso to become the first team eliminated in the regional. Florida finishes its season 29-30.
Florida started closer Johnny Magliozzi in the game and he pitched well. He gave up an early run but Florida got him some support in the middle of the game and he and the Gators built a 4-1 lead.
However, Magliozzi and the Gator bullpen could not hold the lead and Valparaiso rallied to score four runs to take the lead late in the game.
However, in the top of the ninth, Florida had runners on first and second with no one out and moved those runners along with a sacrifice bunt. But Taylor Gushue struck out and Harrison Bader grounded out to end the threat and the season for Florida.
Florida’s losing record was its first since 2007.
