Super Regionals for college baseball are now set; the Women’s College World Series final is underway and more in our Tuesday Sports News and Notes…
** The teams are now in for college baseball’s Super Regionals to be played this weekend. Four SEC teams make the field; South Carolina faces North Carolina; Vanderbilt tackles Louisville; Mississippi State faces Virginia and LSU faces Oklahoma. FSU is also in and will host Indiana.
** The Georgia baseball program has hired Kent State coach Scott Stricklin to replace the fired David Perno; he has also been an assistant coach at Vanderbilt.
** The Women’s College World Series final is underway and Oklahoma takes the first game in the best two of three final against Tennessee 5-3. Game 2 is tonight.
** In MLB action, Atlanta tops Pittsburgh 7-2 and Philadelphia beats Miami by the same score. Tampa Bay was off Monday; it plays Detroit tonight.
** Veteran guard Jason Kidd has retired after 19 seasons; he will be a certain Hall of Famer.
** NFL Hall of Fame member Deacon Jones dies at 74; the Los Angeles Rams defensive end came up with the term “sack” and was a member of the “Fearsome Foursome” of the Rams in the 1960′s.
