By on June 7th, 2013

As many predicted, University of Florida junior righthanded pitcher Jonathon Crawford was taken in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft Thursday by the Detroit Tigers.   He was the 20th overall pick in the first round.   Many draft experts believed Crawford had serious interest from the Tigers and Cardinals before the draft as well.

Two Gator signees were also drafted on Thursday night; San Francisco with the 25th pick in the first round took shortstop Christian Arroyo while the Chicago White Sox take righthanded pitcher Tyler Danish in the second round with the 55th selection.

Several SEC players were drafted in the first two rounds as well.  Arkansas pitcher Ryne Stanek was taken in the first round by Tampa Bay and teammate and pitcher Colby Suggs was taken in the second round by Miami.

Mississippi State outfielder Hunter Renfroe was taken with the 13th pick by San Diego in the first round while Vanderbilt pitcher Kevin Ziomek and LSU pitcher Ryan Eades were taken in the second round by Detroit and Minnesota respectively.

Pitcher Chris Anderson from Jacksonville University was taken by the LA Dodgers in the first round.

The MLB Draft continues today.
