The NBA Finals resume tonight, the NHL Finals are underway, a former Gator makes his MLB debut and the U.S. Open golf championship begins and more in our Thursday Sports News and Notes…

** The NBA Finals resume tonight with Game 4 between San Antonio and Miami; the Spurs are up 2-1 but could be without guard Tony Parker who has a hamstring injury.

** The NHL Finals saw Game 1 go to Chicago 4-3 over Boston.   Game 2 is set for Chicago.

** Another major on the PGA Tour gets underway today with the U.S. Open Championship being played at Merion golf course in Pennsylvania.  

** Former Gator catcher Mike Zunino, called up to the big leagues by the Seattle Mariners, made his big league debut last night and went 1 for 4 in a 6-1 Seattle loss to Houston.

** In MLB action, San Diego completes a sweep of Atlanta with a 5-3 win while Miami loses 10-1 to Milwaukee and Tampa Bay loses 2-1 to Boston.

** Former Gators Chandler Parsons and Brad Beal are invited to attend USA Basketball’s minicamp next month.   They will compete and practice among 27 invitees to the camp for the team coached by Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski. 

** Former NBA great Jason Kidd has been hired to coach a team he once played for…the Nets.   Kidd has not coached at any level and he just retired from the game at the end of this season.
