The much anticipated three-day SEC Football Media Days extravaganza gets underway Tuesday afternoon as each of the conference’s 14 teams send their head coach and three players to Hoover, Alabama. Conference commissioner Mike Slive will kick things off at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Florida will be the first in the hot seat at 2 p.m. ET, featuring head coach Will Muschamp and quarterback Jeff Driskel. The other Gators players taking part Tuesday are senior defensive lineman Dominique Easley and senior offensive guard Jon Halapio. The Gators look to build on a 11-2 overall record, 7-1 in the SEC from last season. Driskel, in his first season as a starter with Florida in 2012, threw for 1,646 yards with a 12 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, while completing 63.7 percent of his passes.
Second on the podium for the day is Missouri. Head coach Gary Pinkel will be bringing with him senior quarterback James Franklin, senior wide reciever L’Damian Washington, and senior linebacker Andrew Wilson. The Tigers posted a 5-7 overall record, 2-6 in conference play, in their debut season with the SEC, and will have to address their chances of improving offensively this upcoming season.
The third team out of four on the docket will be Ole Miss. Along with head coach Hugh Freeze, the Rebels will send wide receiver Donte Moncrief, linebacker Mike Marry, and quarterback Bo Wallace, last year’s Conerly Trophy winner. In Freeze’s first year with Ole Miss, the Rebels went 7-6 overall, 3-5 in the SEC. Questions will likely surround Freeze’s ability to create more success after putting together one of the nation’s most talented recruiting classes.
And last but certainly not least on Day 1 of SEC Media Days will be South Carolina. Gamecocks’ coach Steve Spurrier will bring defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, wide receiver Bruce Ellington, and quarterback Connor Shaw. Much of the spotlight will likely be on Clowney, who brings huge expectations for an impressive individual season and as a leader for much of the Gamecock’s success in the upcoming season.
