Friday Night Lights, Friday Sports News and Notes…

A big recruiting weekend for Gator football, another verbal commitment for Gator football and more in our Friday Sports News and Notes…

** This weekend the Florida football program has one of its biggest recruiting weekends of the year when it hosts Friday Night Lights.   Some of the best prospects for the 2014 and 2015 classes are expected to be on hand.   Listen to Sportscene today at 1pm on ESPN 850 WRUF when Fox SportsNet Recruiting reporter Amy Campbell joins us live to talk about the event and who is expected to visit.

** Meanwhile UF football picks up its second verbal commitment in the last two days when defensive end Justus Reed verbals.   He’s from Clearwater Central Catholic and the 6’3″ 215 pounder chose Florida over the likes of FSU and Ohio State; he’s the 12th verbal in the 2014 class.

** In MLB action, Atlanta loses 7-4 to the New York Mets; the Braves will now host the St.Louis Cardinals this weekend.  Miami downs Colorado 5-3 to take three of four in the series; the Marlins will now host Pittsburgh.  Tampa Bay and Boston were postponed and now the Rays will play this weekend in New York.

** The A-Rod saga continues.   He says he is ready to play but the Yankees may discipline him after he asked for a second medical opinion on his leg without their permission.  Rodriguez could also face discipline from MLB for his alleged involvement in the Biogenesis operation in Florida.

** It looks all but done; the Yankees are set to acquire outfielder Alfonso Soriano from the Chicago Cubs; Soriano began his career with the Yankees.
