** Gator football begins practice today for the season opener August 31st against Toledo. (See related story on UF Media Day) Gator coach Will Muschamp is excited for camp to start but he is dealing with a rash of injuries to quarterback Jeff Driskel, running back Matt Jones and to three offensive linemen.
** The Pro Football Hall of Fame will induct its new class this weekend in conjunction with the Hall of Fame game. Coach Bill Parcells, defensive lineman Warren Sapp, offensive lineman Jonathan Ogden and wide receiver Cris Carter are among those being enshrined.
** In baseball, Miami downs New York 3-0, Atlanta wins its seventh straight 7-2 over Colorado. The Marlins host Cleveland this weekend while Atlanta is in Philadelphia. Tampa Bay hosts San Francisco.
** Former Gator swimmer Ryan Lochte has won a gold medal at the World Championships in the 200 meter IM in Spain.
** Former Gator and current Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper will have sensitivity training after being caught on tape uttering a racial slur. He will not be suspended by the NFL for his remark.
