With college football less than a month away, the Florida football team practiced in full pads for the first time since the start of fall camp Tuesday. The team has been plagued with injuries going into, and during camp, including quarterback Jeff Driskel who has watched from the sidelines after undergoing an emergency appendectomy last week. Florida wide receiver Trey Burton talked about how Driskel has evolved since last season, and how he has been a leader even when he’s unable to take snaps.
While Driskel continues to recover, back-up quarterback Tyler Murphy continues to run the first-team offense. Murphy says he’s been preparing to handle his vital role this season, never knowing when it may be his time to fill in an important void.
First-year receivers coach Joker Phillips has been settling into his new staff position with the Gators. One of his pupils, wide receiver Quinton Dunbar, says Phillips has been pushing him throughout practices- a coaching style different than that of last year’s interim coach Bush Hamdan.
The Gators will continue fall camp in preparation for the season opener August 31st against Toledo.
