Gator football coach Will Muschamp gave an update Monday on his football team about two and a half weeks shy of opening day on August 31st.
The most disturbing news surrounds running back Matt Jones who is still recovering from a viral infection; Muschamp said there is no set timetable for his return. He is a projected starter at the position.
Muschamp had better news on some of the other injured Gators as offensive linemen Trip Thurman and Max Garcia have been cleared to practice although starter Jon Halapio will be out another week or so with a torn pectoral muscle.
Cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy and even fellow defensive player Valdez Showers will get some work in on the offensive side of the ball in the coming days to see if they can help out in that area.
And the safety position, a position of concern after Florida lost starters Josh Evans and Matt Elam, could be getting better. Muschamp said redshirt freshman Marcus Maye is doing well and he also mentioned the play of veteran Jabari Gorman there as well.
Meanwhile the football program gets three verbal commitments in one day for the 2014 class. Highly rated wide receiver Ermon Lane from Homestead as well as cornerbacks Quincy Wilson and Chris Lammons all pledge to the Gators.
