The start of the college football season is now just a couple of days away but the start of the season brings some bad news for the Gator football team.
UF head coach Will Muschamp has another injury to deal with after he already lost running back Matt Jones and offensive lineman Jon Halapio for the opener; Muschamp said redshirt junior offensive lineman Chaz Green will miss the season due to a torn labrum.
Green played in 11 games last season, starting in 10 of them; he missed the Tennessee and Kentucky games due to injury. Muschamp says that senior Kyle Koehne will now start at right guard and that transfer Tyler Moore will move from guard to right tackle as the starter.
As far as Jones is concerned, Muschamp wants to play it safe and wait for his medical clearance.
Jones will need more blood work done as he waits to recover from a viral infection.
In other news, Muschamp announced that the two game suspension for starting linebacker Antonio Morrison has been reduced to one game.
Morrison was arrested twice in a five week span with the first back in June for allegedly punching a bouncer at a Gainesville bar and the other coming on July 21 for allegedly harassing a police dog. He was accused of barking at a police dog but the charges were later dropped for a lack of evidence.
On a more positive note, quarterback Jeff Driskel enters his junior season and he says he has a lot more confidence and looks forward to getting out on the field this year.
The two deep roster has six freshmen on it, mostly on defense, including linebacker Daniel McMillan, safety Keanu Neal and cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III.
