The Florida Gator volleyball team took down the New Orleans Privateers 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-12) in its season opener Friday afternoon. Sophomore middle blocker Simone Antwi led the team with eight kills, the last coming on the match clinching point. Gator coach Mary Wise said Antwi showcased her potential.
Florida’s two seniors, setter Taylor Brauneis and middle blocker Chloe Mann, also had strong performances. Brauneis had 11 assists while Mann had six kills, with both sitting out the third game. Wise spoke about the duo.
Freshman Alex Holston added six kills for Florida in her debut as a Gator. Wise says the team tried to feed her the ball.
The Gators will be back on the court tonight at 7:30 to take on the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds as they continue the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational. You can hear the game live on ESPN 850 WRUF.
