** Two top ten teams collide when Florida hosts Florida State at 7 tonight.   Florida is 2-0 on the young season but will face a stiff challenge in the Seminoles.

** College football is underway and some SEC teams helped kick the season off on Thursday.   South Carolina beat North Carolina 27-10 while Ole Miss in a wild game holds off Vanderbilt 39-35 and UCF downs Akron 38-7.

** High school football in the area kicks off tonight with some key early games like Buchholz facing Eastside, Newberry taking on Santa Fe and Gainesville High visiting Columbia Country.   Florida School for the Deaf beat Oak Hall last night 46-25.

** The NFL exhibition games are all over and now rosters must be cut to 53 players by Saturday.  Jacksonville beat Atlanta 20-16; Miami beat New Orleans 24-21 and Tampa Bay loses 30-12 to Washington.

** Speaking of the NFL, a settlement of some $765 million is likely in the lawsuit brought by former NFL players against the league.   At least 10 Pro Football Hall of Famers were part of the suit but under the agreement, the NFL will not have to be deposed or state what it did or did not know about concussions, treatments and the like.

** In the MLB, the LA Angels blank Tampa Bay 2-0 while Atlanta downs Cleveland 3-1 and Miami is blanked 9-0 by Washington.   Tampa Bay plays Oakland this weekend while Miami faces Atlanta.
