The Florida Gator volleyball team defeated the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds 3-1 (25-18, 25-11, 24-26, 26-16) Friday night in their second game of the Campus USA Credit Union Invite. Ziva Recek and Chloe Mann led the offensive attack for Florida with 15 and 14 kills respectively, while Taylor Brauneis added 41 assists.
It was a much stiffer contest than Florida’s match earlier in the day, when they took down New Orleans 3-0. Gator outside hitter Naomi Santos-Lamb said LIU-Brooklyn changed up the pace on Florida.
Freshman right side hitter Alex Holston was impressive again on her first day in a Gator uniform, following up her strong performance against New Orleans with eight kills against the Blackbirds. Holston said her teammates are helping her adjust to the college game.
The Gators will wrap up the Campus USA Credit Union Invite today when they take on the Duke Blue Devils. Santos-Lamb said the LIU Brooklyn game gave the team a preview of what to expect today.
First serve is set for 4pm in the O’connell Center.
