** Former Gator and current Louisville football coach Charlie Strong opens the season…well…strong, as his Cardinals rout Ohio at home 49-7. Louisville is ranked ninth.
** Georgia not only lost at Clemson Saturday but also lost wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell for the year with a torn ACL.
** Florida State opens its football season tonight at Pittsburgh; it will be the first ever ACC game for the Panthers.
** In MLB action, Tampa Bay is swept at Oakland, losing 5-1. The Rays start a series tonight at the LA Angels. Miami breaks a six game losing skid by beating Atlanta 7-0; the Marlins start a series with the Cubs while the Braves will play the New York Mets.
** Speaking of the Mets, former Gator Matt den Dekker hit his first big league homer over the weekend.
** Kyle Busch wins the NASCAR race in Atlanta over the weekend, beating Joey Logano and Martin Truex, Jr.
** The U.S. Open tennis championship continues today in New York. In men’s play, top seed Novak Djokovic and third seed Andy Murray win and on the women’s side Serena Williams advances with a win over Sloane Stephens in fourth round action.
