** The Florida State Seminoles opened their 2013 college football season in style, beating Pittsburgh 41-13 Monday night. FSU quarterback Jameis Winston was the star, throwing for 356 yards.
** In NFL news, Jacksonville could have Blaine Gabbert back as its starting quarterback for the season opener Sunday against Kansas City. Gabbert has been injured but he has practiced and could play Sunday.
** Roger Federer is gone from the U.S. Open tennis championship; he loses a fourth round match on Monday.
** In the MLB, Atlanta downs the New York Mets 13-5 and the Miami Marlins nip the Chicago Cubs 4-3. Tampa Bay continues its slide, losing to the LA Angels 11-2.
