** The Gator football team drops in the polls after its loss to Miami on Saturday. The Gators fall all the way to 20th in the USA Today Coaches poll with a bye week this week.
** At Texas, defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has been re-assigned after his defense gave up 550 yards rushing to BYU in a Longhorns loss.
** The NFL ends Week 1 tonight with a doubleheader you can hear live on ESPN 850 WRUF as Philadelphia visits Washington and Houston is in San Diego. The Jags and Bucs lost their openers while the Dolphins get a win.
** The MLB wild card races are getting tight. In the American League, Texas and Tampa Bay are the wild card teams with Baltimore and Cleveland two games back and New York two and a half games back. The Rays won 4-1 over Seattle and they start a series with Boston Tuesday.
** In the National League, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are the clear wild card leaders but both are trying to catch St.Louis for the NL Central lead. Atlanta lost 3-2 to Philadelphia Sunday while Miami lost 6-4 to Washington. Atlanta starts a series with the Marlins tonight.
** The Gator volleyball team knocks off number two Stanford Saturday but loses 3-0 to number one Penn State Sunday for its first loss of the year.
** Serena Williams wins her fifth title at the U.S. Open tennis championship while today on the men’s side Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic play for the men’s title.
