A come from behind win on Monday Night Football, another U.S. Open tennis title for Rafael Nadal and an injury to Florida’s starting quarterback…all in our Tuesday Sports News and Notes…
** The Gainesville Sun reports today that Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel sprained his knee in the loss to Miami on Saturday. He is expected to be ready to play next week when Florida hosts Tennessee at 3:30pm.
** The Houston Texans come from behind to beat the home standing San Diego Chargers 31-28 in the second of two games on Monday Night Football. Houston came from 21 points down to win the game. In the first game, Philadelphia holds on to beat Washington 33-27.
** A second men’s title for Rafael Nadal at the U.S. Open men’s tennis championship; he beat top seed Novak Djokovic in four sets.
** In baseball, the American League wild card race is getting tighter. Baltimore and Cleveland moved to within a game and a half of Tampa Bay for the second wild card spot with wins of 4-2 over the Yankees and 4-3 over Kansas City. Atlanta beat Miami 5-2 and Tampa Bay was idle; the Rays start a home series with Boston tonight.
** And the Pittsburgh Pirates clinched their first winning season since 1992 with a 1-0 win over Texas Monday. The Pirates trail St.Louis by one game in the NL Central division.
