The past three matches have gone like clockwork for the Florida Gator soccer team. 90 minutes each, no goals conceded. Coach Becky Burleigh and the number 9 Gators will look to keep it that way when they face the Minnesota Golden Gophers tonight at 7 at Pressly Stadium.
Tonight’s match marks the third consecutive time Florida will be playing a team for the first time ever; they took on Oklahoma and Oklahoma State last weekend. Florida coach Becky Burleigh says Friday’s matchup along with a road match against USF Sunday poses a challenge for her team.
Florida goalkeeper Taylor Burke has not given up a goal against since she gave up one against Oregon State on August 25th. Even though if you ask Burke, she’ll attribute it to a solid back line, Burleigh says just as much credit is due to Burke.
Although the focus for the Florida team may lie on this weekend, after Sunday the SEC schedule begins for the Orange and Blue. UF kicks off against Alabama next Friday in Gainesville to start the conference schedule. Before facing the familiar conference opponents though, Burleigh says Florida has gotten great benefit from the non-conference slate, saying her squad has had to handle many different styles of play.
The match will kick off at Pressly Stadium Friday night at 7PM. It will be broadcast on ESPN 850 WRUF with live coverage starting at 6:50.
