The Gators are 16-0 all time at home against Florida State, and will look to keep that streak alive on Tuesday night in the O’Connell Center.
Florida is coming off three wins in the Active Ankle Challenge, sweeping Georgetown and Iona and then defeating Western Michigan in four sets in the finale. The Seminoles upset then #7 Michigan on Saturday, thanks to sisters Nicole and Elise Walch who combined for 44 kills against the Wolverines. UF head coach Mary Wise says containing the siblings will be a very tall task.
Getting blockers up at the net will certainly help in stopping the experienced outside hitters for FSU, but the defense of the back row will likely need to put up another great performance like they did last weekend. In the Active Ankle Challenge, libero Taylor Unroe averaged 4.50 digs per set and junior Holly Pole averaged 2.50. However, Wise says she was most impressed with sophomore Nikki O’Rourke.
With the Gators ranked #4 and the Noles at #17, Tuesday’s match will mark the fourth consecutive year that the in-state rivals square off as nationally ranked opponents in the AVCA poll. You can listen to the match on ESPN 850 WRUF beginning at 5:50 PM.
