By on September 19th, 2013

The Tampa Bay Rays kept things exciting for the fans in the Trop last night after a 12 inning game that ended with a win. The Rays defeated the Texas Rangers?4-3? which?pushed them into first place in the American League wild card hunt. Rays manager Joe Madden says this is the kind of win that propels a team into the playoffs.

The?Rangers and the Rays play again?tonight.? The Rangers have the second wild card lead and now trail the Rays by a game.

The Cleveland Indians are a half game behind the Texas after losing to the Kansas City Royals 7-2. The Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 5-3?which puts them a game behind for a wild card spot.? Kansas City and New York are two and a half games out.

In the National League, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds are in the lead for the wild card spots. The Pirates only hold a half game lead after losing 3-2 to the San Diego Padres; those teams play again today. Cincinnati beat the Houston Astros 6-5 but the Reds won’t play until Friday when they go up against the Pirates.
