The Other Orange: Florida-Tennessee Rivalry Facts

Rivalries are the backbone of sports. They provide emotion, intensity and prestige. But how valued is a rivalry if one team dominates the other each time the two meet?

The Florida Gators have won eight consecutive games against the Tennessee Volunteers.

They will look to make it nine straight games this Saturday with the Vols visiting “The Swamp.”

Tennessee's last win was in Knoxville in 2004. They knocked off the Gators 30-28.

In 42 battles, dating back to 1916, Florida is 23-19 against the Vols.

Despite the lack of production in the win column for the Southeastern Conference's other-orange team, the history between the two opponents proves the rivalry is real and should be taken seriously by fans on both sides.

Some fans may have their distinct memories of past match-ups. Younger fans may only remember Gator greatness because that is all they have seen.

Florida has dominated its rival for the better part of a decade, but it's a new year. New players are continuously being added to the mix. Judging by their history, anything can happen when they go head-to-head on Saturday.
